Having cardiac (heart) surgery - Patient Guide
The cardiology team and a patient at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, part of the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust outline the treatment you will receive when attending the centre for planned cardiac (heart) surgery. The production is designed to answer patients questions in a clear and straightforward manner, allaying fears and providing re assurance. The production covers:
1. Coming into hospital and checking in
2. Meeting the team and getting prepared for surgery
3. Giving informed consent for surgery
4. Going down to theatre and having an anaesthetic
5. The different types of cardiac surgery
6. Stopping the heart and the bypass (heart lung) machine
7. Being monitored during surgery
8. The length of time in theatre and restarting the heart
9. Being transferred to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and waking up
10. The breathing tube and oxygen mask in ICU
11. Pain relief, reorientation and experiencing hallucinations
12. The external pacing box and chest drains
13. Getting up and out of bed after surgery
14. Being discharged from ICU to the high dependency bays on the ward
15. Removing your chest drains
16. Recovery, breathing exercises and working with the physios
17. Being monitored and staying on the ward
18. Being discharged and recovering at home
19. Monitoring your recovery at home and returning to normal life
20. Maximising your recovery.

    Thanks for the explanation. I'd like to point out that particles are not spinning. Spin is a fundamental quantum property of the proton and has nothing to do with it spinning.

    Dr Kinnaird performed an Angiogram for me recently, what an amazing doctor, the absolute best, a true professional, zero pain or discomfort, in and out in 15 minutes, the team also, in the Cath Lab and the team in the recovery/day unit were incredible, a credit to UHW, NHS and Wales and indeed the UK, can't believe how lucky we are to have this available to us, not been a big user of the NHS in my life but wow, very humbling indeed, thank you.

    Propaganda for the NHS...the university of Wales cardiff where patients go to get abused mistreated and uthenasia is a common practice never trust a doctor and nurses they are corrupt inept unethical immoral mercenaries there are exceptions but they are to afraid to say anything......
